
GALA | REQUIREMENTS
Welcome to your first gala what an exciting time and a great opportunity to put into practice what you have learnt.🏊♀️ 🏊♂️
Go out there and have fun, enjoy the experience and try your best! We are all very proud of you and are here to support you through your swimming journey 🤙
We would suggest you enter 3 events per day, for more clarity speak to your coach.
IMPORTANT THINGS TO REMEMBER ON THE DAY🤔
Report to your Coach before and after each race.
Report in time to the Competitor Steward for your race, at least 8 heats ahead. He/she will call your name and lane number.
Check with the team manager if you’re not sure.
AT THE BLOCKS... 🏁
The Referee blows 3 whistles
You must get ready to start. Check that your goggles and swimming cap are in position.
Make sure your costume is fitted and tight.
The Referee then blows one long whistle
Get onto the starting block and into a good position.
Wait for the Starter to say, “Take your marks.”
Focus on your lane and your strategy for the race.
There will be an extra whistle for Backstroke.
The Starter announces, “Take your marks.”
DON’T look around, fiddle or move on the blocks at this stage. You will be disqualified.
The sound of the horn begins the race and the stop-watch.
THINGS TO PACK FOR THE DAY... 🎒
2 costumes
2-3 towels (especially if it’s cold weather)
2 swimming caps
A pairs of goggles (make sure they fit properly)
Full tracksuit for podium with closed sneakers
Shoes and socks to keep feet warm
Sleeping bag and pillow (to rest between events at long galas)
Correct recovery nutrition and hydration (refuel, rehydrate, rebuild)
SUPPORTERS AND FAMILY... 👨👩👧
We as a club appreciate we all get excited and only want whats best for our loved ones. We ask that everyone supporting does so by supporting everyone involved in the Blues Swimming family, by not only recognising medals but also complementing and praising individual work effort, work ethic, resilience and upholding our culture and displaying our clubs core values.
Please try and sit together in club colours and or clothing
No support or family member is allowed on pool deck
No talking to the coach unless they are in the stand
